Located in Arnold to the north of Nottingham. The Empress Picture House was opened on 8th May 1913. By 1922 it was operated by Joseph Wardle. It was closed on 6th December 1930.
It was re-opened as the King’s Theatre on 22nd November 1934. It was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system and was still operated by Joseph Wardle when it closed as a cinema on 27th December 1947. By 1953 it was operating as the New Empress Theatre. It was demolished in 1956.

By comparing the 1913 map with extant buildings (pubs!), the cinema was where the block containing Mac’s Fish & Chips now is, at 72 Front St, Arnold, Nottingham NG5 7EG. After the cinema closed, it became a Woolworths.
