For Canandaigua residents, 1972 was challenging when it lost its only functional movie theatre, the Playhouse which had just turned 50 before being razed for a bank. Bar-Pel Enterprises decided to add to its Rib Pit and Golfland amusement area this automated Jerry Lewis Cinema. The theatre launched January 17, 1973 with “Pete ‘n’ Tillie”. A few months later in 1973 following the demise of the Jerry Lewis Cinemas chain, it was renamed Lake Country Cinema. It was closed on April 30, 1987 with “Police Academy 4:Citizens on Patrol”.
The entire complex was razed for a Wegmen’s Grocery Store and new post office.

After the Jerry Lewis bankruptcy, the theater was renamed Lake Country Cinema several months after opening. The Lake Country Cinema was a single-screener throughout its life, and closed on April 30, 1987 with “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol”.
