Burg Theatre

Charles Burg opened his Burg Theatre on January 28, 1924 with “Robin Hood” starring Douglas Fairbanks. It was located in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows building that still stands in Council Grove’s downtown with the IOOF designation at the building’s top.

In 1927, the Burg Theatre discontinued movies. It became an indoor miniature golf course for a brief period before returning as the Burg Theatre with live events. It was used mainly as a dance hall and having live vaudeville shows in the early-1930’s.

Still a dance hall on the 1944 map. This is now office space for a title company.

Just for history, this building was constructed in 1923, after the prior 1901 Odd Fellows hall burned. I have a picture which I will add. The KHRI entry is here: https://khri.kansasgis.org/index.cfm?in=127-1180-00049
