Correction: Empire Theatres closed the Prince Edward Cinemas in 1990 because of the expansion of the nearby Charlottetown Mall Cinemas from a twin to a quad. The Charlottetown Mall Cinemas had been operating since 1976.

The Prince Edward Cinemas was once operated by Atlantic Theatres Ltd., who also operated by the Charlottetown Mall Cinemas, before Empire Theatres took both theaters over in the late-1980s.
