Barn Multi Arts Centre

Just outside the Aberdeenshire town of Banchory, the Barn Multi Arts Centre began its life as a cultural space in the early-1990’s, when the Burnett family offered the use of a derelict farm steading and cattle byre as a makeshift rehearsal space for a community play, created to celebrate the anniversary of 400 years of nearby Crathes Castle and community life in Banchory. Energised by the success of the play, which involved 200 local people, a small committee of residents, artists and supporters took over the Barn Multi Arts Centre, formed Woodend Arts in 1994 and began the long journey of transforming the site into a successful multi-arts venue, welcoming artists, performers and visitors from across the world.

Rustic charm is combined with a high technical standard; presentations include theatre, live music, comedy, dance and, of course, films, which are presented in association with Curzon under their Curzon Connect initiative.

Creative workshops are also held, and the Gallery plays host to changing exhibitions. Buchanan Bistro serves food and drink from a new building alongside the Barn.

The Barn Multi Arts Centre can accommodate up to 250 guests theatre-style or 300 for standing events. The Barn Theatre is a registered charity.
