Novelty Theatre

According to The Napa Valley Register, Sam Mendelson and C.Y. Halsey opened the Novelty Theatre in Turner Hall September 11, 1905. Associated with Fischers Theatre and the Novelty Theatre of San Francisco, they would present high-class vaudeville and moving pictures.

The Register noted many changes of ownership over the years and in January 1919 a notice said the Novelty Theatre could be leased for a term of 1 to 5 years. “Has always been a money maker. Rent very low". By April the Novelty Theatre, fully equipped except for machines, was for sale or could be leased on a trial basis.

It soon became evident why the Novelty Theatre was closed. In November 1919 James C. Ramsey, proprietor of the Novelty Theatre, passed away. He had never recovered completely from the 1918 flu epidemic, which also closed the Empire Theatre.

The last owner reopened the Novelty Theatre on September 14, 1919, but by 1920 it was out of the local listings while Napa was waiting the arrival of the Hippodrome Theatre.

By 1924 Sanborn Maps show the building was renamed Full Gospel Mission.
