In 1961, Syufy Enterprises Circuit built the Whipple Drive-In at E. Bayshore Road and Whipple Avenue. The name would later be changed to the Redwood Drive-In and would add three screens. With a 25-year lifecycle, the drive-in was closed following the 1986 season and demolished in 1987 to make was for the Syufy’s 12-plex, the Century 12 Cinema which opened in 1989 and closed roughly 20 years later by Cinemark.
