It opened on 21st December 1949 with the premiere of “Reise nach Marrakesch” (Travel to Marrakesh).

On 8th December 1954 a second screen named Bambi was opened with 273 seats. On 20th Ocober 1967 a third screen named Pallette was opened with 224 seats. In 1980 three more screens were added with seating for 250, 61 and 59.

The Metro Kinecenter was closed at the end of 1989. It was demolished and a building housing Hugendubel bookstore and other shops now stands on the site.
