Evick's Theater

In September 1946 Forest Evick obtained licences for the operation of a movie theatre at the Mill Site, which he recently purchased from George Fletcher in McDowell. The first advertsement for Evick’s Theater was on January 2, 1948 when it was screening “City of Silent Men”. The last advertisement for Evick’s Theater was on February 18, 1949 with the movies “Code of the Lawless” and “Two Fisted Justice”. An added attraction was the Joe Lewis v Jersey Jo Wallcox fight. The Evick’s Theater was never listed in editions of Film Daily Yearbook.

After closing the building was used as a communities activies venue into the 1950’s. It was advertised ‘For Sale’ on March 31, 1960 as “A 3-story frame store building, with theatre and modern apartment, all utilities, located in McDowell, VA”.

Mr. A. K. Evick opened this Theatre in McDowell after having operated a Theatre under the same name in nearby Monterey.
