Located in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim. The Gaiety Cinema opened in the early-1930’s. It had a 22ft wide proscenium and a small stage which was used for occasional variety acts. Seating was provided for 350 in stalls and balcony levels. There was also a cafe and a dance hall attached. It was run by J.J. Flood until around 1947 when it was bought by Jock O’Hanrahan, a surgeon from Roscommon. He sold it to a group of businessmen in 1972, when it was the only cinema in County Leitrim, who ran it until 1981 when Gerard Kelly took over. In the late-1990’s its future was uncertain but it was refurbished for a final time in 1997 and eventually closed in 2004 with a reduced seating capacity of 135. The shell of the building remains but the interior has been converted into various retails units including a hardware shop called Quidsworth.
