Durham Theatre

Located on Johnson Street, one block south of the intersection with Parry Street. The first hall in Bruce Rock opened on 26th July 1917, but was quickly outgrown and replaced with a new hall. Durham Hall opened on 28th July 1920(next to a hotel, which it is part of?). Movies were screening from 1921 to 1937. The hall burnt down on 7th January 1937. Durham Hall was rebuilt, and movies were screened again in the Durham Theatre and ceased in the 1960’s when the Bruce Rock Drive-In opened. Durham Hall is still there, it became a restaurant for the hotel next door, then a video store and now housing.

200 seats(1930’s to 1950). 250 seats(1951 to 1960’s). There was also a picture garden next door(230 seats) after the restaurant closed, it became a video store, and is now a residence.
