Opened in December 1980 at the Hickory Point Mall with six screens. The theater was originally operated by AMC Theatres. In 1991 it became part of the GKC Theatres chain. After Carmike Cinemas acquired GKC in 2005, the theater was operated by Carmike. The theater increased to eight screens in 1988 and in 1994 to 12 screens. The theatre was closed on March 16, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It reopened on August 27, 2020 only to close again on November 20, 2020. It was announced in December 2020 that the closure would be permanent.

The first six screens opened on December 12th, 1980. Grand opening ad posted. Expanded to 8 screens in 1998 and 12 in 1994.
The AMC Classic Hickory Point was closed on March 16, 2020 along with its other locations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The theatre reopened on August 27, 2020 before being closed due to Illinois guidelines on November 20, 2020. That became the venue’s final day when AMC announced the permanent closure of the Hickory Point location in December of 2020.
