PADUA THEATRE BRUNSWICK VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA OPENS -1937

The Argus Newspaper (Melbourne, Vic) Thursday 8 July 1937 – Writes PADUA THEATRE OPENS.

Big First Night Audience.

Brunswick’s new theatre, the Padua, which was built: at a cost of £40,000 for Hoyts Theatres Ltd, was opened before a crowded house, which was greatly impressed by notable decorative design, the absence of noise, the carpeted stalls, floating screen and revolving stage.

Many theatre parties had been arranged, and the first night was a notable one. The program had “The Charge the Light Brigade” as its principal Item. Wall Disney’s Mickey’s Circus, in color, and supporting films made excellent entertainment – Towards the end of it’s life, The Padua would become The Metropolitan Theatre, screening Italian films – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
