Located in the west of Cologne city centre. The Capitol Filmtheater was built on the site of the bomb damaged 2,000-seat Capitol Kino. The Capitol Filmtheater was opened in 1954 and had 1,000 seats. It was designed by architect Hans Land.
In 1974 a small 60-seat auditorium named the Movie was created in the building. This had a system which used mirrors to project the picture onto the screen. In 1976 a third screen was added in a building adjacent at #83 Hohenzollernring. This was named Apollo and had 150 seats.
The Capitol Filmtheater, Movie and Apollo were closed on 29th September 1995. The building is now used by a café, and offices, with the neon ‘Capitol’ sign surviving.
