Prison Cinema

Fremantle Prison opened in 1855, and closed on 30th November 1991, and the prisoners moved to the new Casurina Prison at Casuarina. There may have been screenings in the prison for the prisoners and/or the prison staff. The prison is now open for tourists. Part of the prison is now a back packers, and there is plans to operate a outdoor cinema in the prison grounds, and to screen the films on the prison walls. Fremantle Prison appeared on The Amazing Race(season 9, leg 8), and The Amazing Race Australia(season 1, last episode).

The Crown Theatre was re-opened on 12th January 2021 as the Prison Cinema, screening classic prison themed films.
