Situated in the basement of Gasson’s Marine Stores, Verulam Place, on St. Leonards seafront as it joins Hastings, almost opposite Hastings Pier, this 60 seat cinema was one of twenty two to open in the borough during 1912.

It had two owners during its short life and was initially called the Norman Kinema and latterly the Norman Cinema. It didn’t survive to the end of the year.

The original Verulam Place was demolished and during the 1960’s, 1970’s and much of the 1980’s was a car park.

A block of retirement flats called Waverley Court, named after the UK’s last remaining sea worthy paddle steamer, the PS Waverley, which was once a regular visitor at Hastings Pier.
