Everyman Palace Theatre Cinema

Originally opened Easter Monday 1897 as a 1,000-seat live theatre. One of the acts on the opening programme was Professor Jolly’s World Renowned Cinematographe. Short films were part of the programme in the 1900’s. The Palace Theatre was screening films and variety shows by 1927 and in June 1930 it became a full time cinema after being equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. The proscenium is 28ft wide. It has a 25ft deep stage and seven dressing rooms. It was closed as a cinema on 4th June 1988 with “Trains, Planes and Automobiles”.

It was purchased by the Everyman Theatre Company in 1990 and is now a live theatre.
