Located in Burwood to the east of Melbourne. The Skyline Drive-In open on 18th February 1954 with Danny Kaye in “On the Riviera”. It closed on 22nd June 1983. The ramps, (and entrance and exit roads) and speaker posts and speakers, and screen (and possibly the marquee) are gone. The rest of the site used by a Electricity supply company (Alinta).

The Skyline Drive-in (Burwood) is Australia’s first conventional Drive-in.
There is more information and photos at the website www.drive-insdownunder.com.au .
Opening film was “On the Riviera”.
The playground on the site pays tribute to the old drive-in that was there.
The original ticket box and entrance road STILL exist on McComas Grove! The ticket box has been gutted and turned into a shelter with park benches underneath, the entrance road is blocked off from the street and goes up to what’s left of the ticket box.
This drive-in also had a steak house, this building still exists on the site.
Was the steak house separate from the snack bar?
Yes, it was next to an artificial lake which has since been drained.
There was a preview screening on 17/2/1954 for an invited audience, screening “The Conquest of Everest”, before the offical opening on 18/2/1954.
Closed on 22/6/1983.
