Palace Cinema

Located in Prescot, Lancashire, to the east of Liverpool. The Prescot Picture Palace and Theatre of Varieties was opened in 1912, a conversion of two 19th Century townhouses. By 1927 it had been re-named Palace Cinema. Around 1929 it was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. In 1932 & 1933 it was operated by the J.F. Emery Circuit.

The Palace Cinema was closed in 1957. It became a carpet & furniture warehouse. In 1975 it was purchased by Tudor Bingo and converted into a bingo club. In the late-1980’s it became a Coral Bingo club. In 1995 it was purchased by the Prescot Community Church (an Elim Pentecostal Church) and they vacated the building in 2021.

It was purchased by Knowsley Council in 2021 and was designated a Grade II Listed status by English Heritage. The Council began a restoration project which was part funded by English Heritage.
