According to the Anderson Herald Bulletin, Harry Van Noy opened the Van Noy Theatre in 1947 and operated it until his retirement on January 25, 1970.
Beginning in 1973 the building was used as a tavern until its demolition on April 11, 1998. The owners of the building planned to use the site as a parking lot for their funeral home, which was located directly across the street.
Mr. Van Noy’s history in Anderson goes back to before 1920 and later when he managed the Riviera Theatre and Starland Theatre. From 1933 to 1946 he was manager of the Paramount Theatre. In October of 1959 when the independently operated New State Theatre opened, Harry assisted the owners in booking films and other operations.
Film Daily Year Book 1951 lists the Van Noy Theatre with 400 seats.
