In 1935, Fred and Mary Lind purchased a small store building at 119 E. 3rd Street and remodeled it into the Ute Theatre. In April of 1944, the theatre burned. The Linds set to work rebuilding almost immediately and the Ute Theatre reopened in October of 1944.

In summer of 1947, the Linds purchased some land on E. 4th Street and began construction on a brand-new, state-of-the-art movie theatre which they completed and opened for business as the 600-seat New Ute Theatre in 1948. (This New Uta Theatre has its own page on Cinema Treasures)
