In the Klondyke district of Cramlington, Northumberland, the Rex Cinema is not listed in the 1937 Kinematograph Year Book, but it did appear in the 1940 edition.
At that time, it was owned by C & T Cinemas, of Newcastle upon Tyne. There were 480 seats, and the proscenium was 18ft wide.
By the 1953 edition, the proprietor was T.C. Craven, of Newcastle upon Tyne (perhaps a director of C & T Cinemas). The seating capacity had by then reduced to 406.
The Rex Cinema was still open in 1963, but had closed by 1966.
By the time I visited, in August 2008, the building was occupied by Blossom Hill, a furniture retailer. More recently it has become home to C.J. Performance Cycles Ltd.
