The Reed store in McKinley (now Bass Harbor, on Mt. Desert Island) had space upstairs which was used for meetings and shows. Mr. Reed began showing movies there around 1920. It was operating as the Sawyer Theatre with 100 seats in 1926.
He oversaw heavy renovations on the space, including a new entrance, and it reopened in August 1938 as the Neptune Theatre. It had a nautical motif, and was quite striking inside. It closed about 1951.

The Theatre Historical Society archive has the MGM Theatre Report for the Neptune; it’s Card # 406. Address is Main St. in McKinley (former name for Bass Harbor). There is an exterior photo dated Jan 31, 1941. Condition is Good. The report states that it opened in 1931 (incorrect), that it was not showing MGM films, and had 300 seats. The 1940 year-round population was 500.
