In the small town of Astley, to the west of Manchester, this cinema opened on 24th April 1921. It was built at the junction of Coach Road and Manchester Road.
The Kinematograph Year Book for 1931 simply listed it as “The Cinema”, but with no further details. The 1940 edition contained the same very basic information, although it did add that there were 420 seats.
Curiously, in the 1953 edition a full entry gives the cinema name as The Kinema. This would surely have been a rather archaic name by then, although it was owned by Vickers Kinema Astley Ltd. based in Wigan. Some enlargement might have been carried out, as the entry lists 501 seats. A proscenium width of 25ft was given. The Kinema closed on 16th July 1955.
Since then the frontage has been drastically altered and the rest of the building has been covered in sheet metal cladding.
In recent years it has been occupied by Your Move estate agency, and in 2018 it was a flower shop.

Opened 24 April 1921, was also used as lecture hall. Vickers, the owners, summoned to court in 1954 for not screening its fair share of British pictures. Closed 16 July 1955, now flower shop.
