Picture House

In the north Cornwall coastal town of Bude, this was an early cinema to bear the name Picture House. According to the ‘Cinema 100’ plaque on the wall, it was opened on 2nd March 1922 by Robert Edgar Booth.

The 1931 Kinematograph Year Book gives W. J. Graves as the owner at that time.

Presumably this cinema closed when the new, larger Picture House was built, on a different site in 1936 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures as the Bude Leisure Centre).

In July 2003, when I visited, the building was being used by a car accessories supplier. That had closed by May 2011 and the building was boarded up. A July 2018 Google Street View shows it ‘For Sale and boarded up.
