In Ayr, on the west coast of Scotland, the Ritz Cinema opened in 1932. The 1940 Kinematograph Year Book listed the proprietor as Newton-on-Ayr Picture House Ltd. and gave a proscenium width of 26ft. By 1948 it was operated by A.B. King circuit.
By the 1953 edition ownership had transferred to Crown Cinema (Ayr) Ltd.
The Ritz Cinema was closed in the late-1950’s. By the time I visited, in June 2003, the building was occupied by The Davis Club, a snooker and pool hall.
