Savoy Cinema

Located at the corner of Swan Street and Chapel Street in Petersfield, Hampshire. The Savoy Cinema was built on the site of the Petersfield Electric Theatre which was demolished in 1935. The Savoy Cinema was opened in August 1935. It had a plain brick exterior, but a superb simple Art Deco style auditorium. It was equipped with CinemaScope in early-1955.

In the 1970’s part-time bingo was introduced on two night a week and this continued into the 1980’s when films were dropped and it became a full time bingo club, which closed on 5th January 1985. Permission was not granted to convert it into retail use, and it became Oscars nightclub in November 1985. Last named Vertigo it has since closed and the building was demolished in the 2010’s.
