Criterion Picture Theatre

The Majestic Pictures was opened 1st February 1915. A notable feature were the two stone lions which guarded its entrance. It had a 37ft wide proscenium. Around 1929 it was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. It was closed 29th June 1935 for renovations to be carried out.

It re-opened 5th August 1935 and was re-named Criterion Picture Theatre. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

The Criterion Picture Theatre was closed 14th June 1969. It has been demolished. The two stone lions were rescued and are now situated in Hornsea Memorial Gardens.
