Pavilion Cinema

Always known as “The Old Ones” (as opposed to the other cinema “The La Scala” built 1936). Its frontage was about 10 feet leading to a corridor at the end, of which was the box office. It was built in I guess just after World War I. The stalls at the front were wooden benches and a ticket for a chilled was 4pence (about 2p). The balcony was one shilling (5p). I preferred going there as it always got the Disney films and “The Three Stooges”. On a Saturday it had a serial like “Flash Gordon”, “Batman”, etc. It was demolished in about 1969 along with the adjoining buildings. Woolworth was built on the site.
