Description: front is still there – wrong. Demolished in ‘63 to make way for petrol station. Petrol station later morphed into an auto repair centre (in station building). More recently still, the garage building was DEMOLISHED to allow for the construction of what is there now: currently a Malaysian Restaurant(http://myrasa.com.au) and a cosmetic tattoo place (http://www.bellesorelle.com.au) and office spaces. As I said, the entire Welwyn Ave precinct has been transformed in the last decade.Shopping centre from the 1950s is still there (modernized a lot), but the old hall, tennis courts etc that were behind the shops is now a 'cultural centre’ (Library etc). Progress…. the buildings on the site of the old Gardens were put up this decade. Nothing remains of the garage, or the Gardens! ( except in memories)
The buildings there now look new!!
Address is 16 and 18 Welwyn Avenue, Manning.
More or less – a block or so north of the corner. About where Google Maps shows Belle Sorelle and No. 16.
North eastern corner?
Link is working for me (you do have to zoom in though)… the whole place has been done up – where the garage was now shows a beauty salon and a restaurant on the site, according to Google Maps I grew up in the area, but have since retired to the SW! Eastern side of Welwyn, closest to Manning Rd.
The link doesn’t seem to be working!! Which corner of Welwyn Avenue and Bradshaw Crescent was it on?
Thank you, i was guessing at the location of the Welwyn Gardens!! Is the Mobil petrol station gone now?
This location information is incorrect. It was actually on the corner of Welwyn Ave. and Bradshaw Cres. It was demolished in 1963 to make way for a ‘Mobil’ petrol station. I went there as a primary school student! Welwyn Ave shops (pictured above) was nearby. I have an aerial photo link that shows it clearly: http://picture.southperth.wa.gov.au/cdm/ref/collection/p15890coll6/id/71
