Built in 1925 as the Amherst Theatre, it opened on February 7, 1926 with Lewis Stone in “Fine Clothes” plus 5 acts of vaudeville on the stage. It had 1,697 seats, and was designed by architects C.D. Goodman and C. Howard Crane. Emmanuel Biffra was the decorator. It has a beautiful interior in the style of the Spanish Renaissance. Boxes extend from each corner of the balcony. Originally, it showed films to the local French speaking population. Later, it was an English double-run house for several years until the 1940’s, when it returned to French language films. In 1969, it was renamed Arlequin Theatre.
For many years now as the Theatre L'Olympia, it has been used for live shows.

As of December 2010, they are still open and going strong. Their webpage (http://www.olympiademontreal.com/en/) shows some auditorium photos – it’s a low and wide autiroium, just a small shelf balcony in the back, most seats in the orchestra level.
