Architect's sketch of proposed Art Deco make-over of the Cottesloe Theatre, January 1937

Wells Hall was built around the turn of the century by Walter Wells, a contractor and partner in a local grocery store(name unknown?). Films were screened from as early as November 1904. A picture gardens was opened around the corner on Leake Street next to Wells Hall in (1920?).

Re-built in an Art Deco style to the plans of architect H. Howard Bonner of architectural firm Howard Bonner & Tracy it re-opened as the Cottesloe Theatre in 1937. The Cottesloe Theatre and Gardens were closed in(1960 to 1964?), and demolished in 1964. The site became the Grove Shopping Centre(now renamed Cottesloe Central Shopping Centre).
