Fantastic picture. First one I have seen of the Danforth Theater. The theater was jokingly called “The Itch.” A family story of the theater describes it being built for or bought by James Keresey after selling his home on Old Bergen Rd to St Paul The Apostle Church to build the school. While other grand theaters were build with stages and converted to show films, the Danforth Theater was one of the first built specifically for showing films. After his death in 1916 the theater was operated by his son James. The combined challenges of converting to “talkies” and the Great Depression led to its closure.
