The Royal Cinema was opened 20th April 1940. It had 500 seats in its single auditorium, with seating arranged in orchestra and balcony levels. It was designed by architect Nils Olsson, with interior decorations by architect/designer Marcus Madrid Lorentsen. On the splay walls each side of the proscenium are painted murals of heavenly constellations by artist Hugo Ofverstrom. It was re-named Bio Roy in 2008.

This Cinema was closed for a while but then reopened in 2008. Originally called Cinema Royal, the name was changed to Roy, in honor of Goteborg filmmaker, Roy Andersson, and the last two letters of the sign were taken out of use.
