I’m pretty sure this is where I saw the sneak preview of JAWS a couple months before its Summer release….the entire theater stood up and applauded when the end credits appeared….what an evening!

The Grandview II last operated as a twin. The theater closed on September 24, 1987 with “Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs” rerelease and “Fourth Protocol” at Screen 1 and “Tear Away” at Screen 2.

I believe a Taco Bell now sits on the spot where the theater used to be.

@Jmiller: “The Swarm” was one of the most hyped pictures I can remember (there were full page color ads in the Globe-Democrat about 1-2 months before it opened saying “The Swarm is coming!”…but like you said, once it opened, it turned out to be an epic flop!!! Right up there with Heaven’s Gate as one of the worst big-budget movie disasters of all time!

I infamously dragged my mother and brother here for the 1978 premiere of “The Swarm!” It was the day before our family was to head off on an RV trip to Colorado. I remember reading the abysmal reviews in the newspaper as we were on our trip!

Since this theater became a twin after opening as a single screen, shouldn’t the number of screens be 2 rather than 1? Just wondering…

I remember going here with my first real girlfriend. The place had a huge screen, comfortable seating and an actual smoking section within the main auditorium. Before it opened the closest movie theater was in Ferguson. I remember seeing “Judgement at Nuremburg” w/Spencer Tracy & no one liked it by me…

Only movie I recall seeing here was “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”

Grandview opened October 31, 1962 with a subrun of “The Miracle Worker.”

The conversion to a two-screen operation took place in 1976.
