Located on Cathedral Avenue at the corner of Maitland Street. Queen’s Park Theatre opened on 27th March 1982 with live productions. Pictures began there irregularly, and then regular screenings began on 31st December 1987 after the Radio Theatre closed, with “Masters of the Universe”(1pm),“Spaceballs”(7pm), and “Jaws the Revenge”(9pm). Screenings ceased(early-2000’s?) when the Orana Cinemas opened.

Movies were sometimes screened outside Queen’s Park Theatre in an amphitheatre(possibly still there?), (possibly at nighttime?),
Was thinking December 31, 1987 seems a little late for its opening, but I can’t really recall seeing a flick there that likely opened before that date. I definitely did see The Last Emperor there (as a 13 year old and the only soul in the cinema for a 3-he epic!). IMDB has the Australian release date as November 26, 1987 but that doesn’t necessarily preclude the QPT from screening that sometime in early 1988 given lax distribution of reels back in the day. Most of the earliest films I can certainly recall watching there early all seem to be 1988 releases: Cop; Fright Night Part 2; Colors (somehow wrangled my way into an R-rated movie); Cocktail…so maybe 31/12/1987 does track. Seems an odd time to start showing movies but who am I to judge! I recall the projectionist at the time (Wayne) came across from the Radio Theatre. From what I can recall, there were only 2 licenses projectionists (w/ electrical licenses) in Geraldton at the time.
