Roebuck Plaza Theatre

Opened by ABC Southeastern Theatres on November 4, 1966 with Dean Martin in “Texas Across the River”. It was an 800-seat single screen, first run luxury theatre. It was located in the Roebuck Plaza Shopping Center which was just north of Irondale and east of the Birmingham Airport alongside what is now I-59. ABC, which also operated the Alabama Theatre and Ritz Theatre, and would later open the Bessemer Twin Theatre and Hoover Twin Theatre would eventually twin this location.

In 1979, ABC sold out to Plitt Theatres which in turn sold its Birmingham locations to R.C. Cobb in the early-1980’s. This would give Cobb Theatres complete control of Birmingham movie screens with the exception of a few surviving independent drive-ins. It was closed on September 13, 1984 with Vera Miles in “The Initiation” & Bo Derek in “Bolero”.
