Opened as the Gorby Opera House in 1914, this was designed by Tourtellotte and Hummel, who would go on to design Boise’s 1927 Egyptian Theatre. Its location across from the local depot made it easy for vaudevillians taking the railroad into town.
It served as the town movie theatre until the early-1990’s, and since 1994 its owners Rich and Connie Wills, with the help of volunteers and local players have kept its weekends busy presenting dinner theatre and shows.
Seating is about 100 in the middle plus dinner seating on each side. The vintage seats are on rails, making it convenient to slide them around for community events. If you go, be sure to check out its 100-year old piano and other original features of the theatre.
It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Here is an updated link to the official web site of the Glenns Ferry Opera Theatre.
Despite having been called an Opera House, this theater was planned to accommodate movies from its inception. Plans for the project were announced in the February 7, 1914 issue of movie theater industry trade journal Motography: “F. O. McGill of Gooding was awarded the contract to build the new moving picture theater at Glenns Ferry, for which plans have been drawn by Tourtellotte & Hummel. The building will cost $10,000.”
