On August 23, 1959, the Salina Journal reported on the demolition and history of the Royal Theatre. It was reported that William Thatcher opened the Royal Theatre in 1913 in the previous Duckwall-Myers variety store.
It was noted that previously in 1909 Mr. Thatcher operated the Princess Theatre, located at 151 N. Santa Fe Street and his brother, Herbert, operated the Strand Theatre.
The 400-seat Royal Theatre closed in early-1959 and Planter State Bank, most recently KSN Television, was erected on the site.
