Does anyone have a seat count for the pre-twinned SP Mall Cinema? I’m thinking anywhere between 800-1,000 seats. It was easily the largest suburban theater next to the old (originally a single screen) Wedgewood Cinema on Raccoon Road. Among the countless # of films I saw here, the reissue of “Lawrence of Arabia” in spring 1971 stands out because it was shown in 70 mm. Don’t recall any other 70 mm showings there.
The Southern Park Theatre opened its doors on April 10, 1970 with “M-A-S-H” and closed on April 2, 1989 with “Leviathan” due to the expansion of the nearby CinemaSouth.
