The January 1, 1927 issue of Moving Picture World has an item about another theater planned for Marlow’s West Main Street. I wonder if it could have been the Rex, which we don’t have listed? “MARLOW, OKLA.—Frank Miller, owner of Whiteway Theatre, has purchased Briscoe Building on West Main street and is converting same into an up-to-date theatre.”
The Alamo opened February 9, 1936 by Frank Miller on a 30-year lease. Dual Simplex projectors, four speakers with Western Electric sound, Silver King screen, cry room, smoking room, and an opening film of Ann Harding in “The Lady Consents” were all a part of opening day. Meanwhile, Miller’s existing Whiteway Theatre was demoted to twice-a-week operation.
It was Miller’s latest theater in town. He had started with the Pastime Theatre on August 28, 1913 - its first of three locations. He also bought the Whiteway in 1922 and operated the Rex from 1927 to 1929.
Boxoffice, Feb. 15, 1965: “O. L. Smith is back in the harness after being out of the theatre business for some 17 months. He took over the Alamo Theatre and the Long Horn Drive-In in Marlow January 1. Both were badly run down so Smith closed the Alamo Monday (8) for four days to renovate it.”
The Alamo Theatre located at 305 West Main in Marlow, opened about 1935. Don’t know the original owner. In 1946, Hurshel and Vincie McKelroy bought the Whiteway and the Alamo. Prior to 1954, O.L. Smith buys the Mar (was Whiteway) and the Alamo until they closed.
