Located in Blyth, Northumberland. Opened as Grantham’s Assembly Rooms by John Grantham. It was screening films in the late-1890’s. It was taken over by Snouden James in 1906 and he equipped the building with a Electric Chrono Bioscope, and films were featured from 25th October 1906 when it was re-named Gaiety Variety Hall. It had closed during the summer of 1907, but later re-opened. Closed again the summer of 1909, it was re-opened as West’s Palace in August 1909 after being taken over by Australian cinema owner Thomas J. West. It was closed on 16th March 1912, and was converted into Gardners Sales Rooms.
During World War I the roof was blown off, and repairs were carried out. The roof was blown off again during World War II, and again it was repaired. The building then became a workshop. It suffered damage in a March 1961 fire. In 1996 it became the Eric Tolhurst Centre for young people.
