Cosy Cinema

Originally built as the Socialist Hall which was used for dances, lectures etc. It opened as the Popular Picture Palace in March 1911. It was closed in January 1920 and reopened after alterations and the installation of new seats in February 1920 as the Cosy Cinema. The Cosy Cinema was closed in 1952.

In 1953 it began use as the Oldham Central Labour Club, which operated in the building until 1983. In December 1985 it became the Cabaret Club, and this was still open in 2015. It had been demolished by 2018 and the site is a car park.

My Mother said that you paid something like one penny admission and in return you got a few sweets or an apple plus an ORANGE BOX to sit on.
