Savoy Cinema

Located in the Netherton district to the south of Dudley in the West Midlands. The Savoy Cinema was opened on 26th August 1936 with Jeanette MacDonald in “Naughty Marietta”. Seating was provided on a single sloped floor, and the auditorium ran parallel to Northfield Road. It was equipped with a Morrison sound system, which in the late-1940’s was replaced by a RCA sound system.

The Savoy Cinema was closed on 24th December 1960 with Sterling Hayden in “The Iron Sheriff” and John Payne in “Hidden Fear”. The building became a carpet store and warehouse. It was demolished in 2004. The Savoy Centre has been built on the site.
