The Merritt Square 16 was opened by Cobb Theatres on May 21, 2004. The theater was designed by CTSM Architects and built on the site of the former AMC Merritt Square 6, which operated there from 1970-2001.
An IMAX screen and 20 D-Box MFX seats were added in the spring of 2011. Cobb notes that they have closed captioning, 4ft. between rows, Internet ticketing, and an extensive food menu. It was taken over by CMX Cinemas in October 2017.
