The Pine Breeze Drive-In was part of the Naify family’s T&D Jr. circuit in the 1950’s and 1960’s. It opened on August 25, 1950 with Yvonne De Carlo in “Buccaneer’s Girl” & Roy Rogers in “Trigger, Jr.”. The small drive-in operated in the summer months and the Naify’s El Rey Theatre operated during the winter. After closing in 1962, the Pine Breeze Drive-In became the site of a swap meet for a number of years, and was then demolished in the early-1980’s.
The site was occupied by a branch of the Beyond Fitness health club which was possibly destroyed by a wildfire on November 8, 2018 which all but destroyed the entire town.

The drive-in appears in a 1951 aerial photo, indicating it was built at least by that year. It also appears intact in a 1969 aerial photo.
A 1993 aerial photo shows the drive-in to be totally demolished and empty, save for hints of the ramps.
The Pine Breeze appeared in the 1951 Film Daily Year Book and the 1950-51 Theatre Catalog, which listed its capacity as 363 cars. In 1953, it was run by United-California, aka Golden State Theatres.
Based on spot checks of the Paradise Post, the Pine Breeze’s final season might have been 1962. The town’s theaters were plagued by vandalism, and I didn’t see any later drive-in ads. Although the site looked intact in aerial photos, a letter to the editor in February 1970 said, “As the former Pine Breeze outdoor theatre now stands it is slowly rusting and disintegrating.”
The last newspaper ad for the Pine Breeze was in the July 17, 1962 Chico Enterprise-Record. The double feature that night was “The Hustler” and “Two Rode Together”.
