Located in Highland park to the north of Detroit, MI. This 1.800-seat theater was designed by Maurice Finkel, who also designed the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor and the Goldcoast Theater in Detroit, and opened October 28, 1921 with Wanda Hawley in “Her Face Value” plus vaudeville on the stage. The Tuxedo Theater closed in 1958, and was demolished almost a decade later.

The Tuxedo was one of two large Detroit neighborhood houses recently acquired by the Publix chain, according to the July 5, 1930, issue of Exhibitors Herald World. The other was the LaSalle Garden Theatre, which Publix renamed the Century.

This theater was in Highland Park, not Detroit. The site is currently an apartment building. Anyone know exactly what year it was demolished?
