Operated by: Rialto Cinemas
Previously operated by: Cinema West
Previous Names: Sebastopol 9 Cinemas
The Press-Democrat reported that Ky Boyd re-opened the 9-screen Rialto Cinemas on May 4, 2012. Its program consists of a mix of mainstream and art house films. For Boyd, it was a second act for the Rialto, which lost its Santa Rosa lease in August of 2010.
The Press-Democrat noted that Boyd is “widely regarded as Sonoma County’s biggest champion of independent films.” Ky also operates Rialto Cinemas in El Cerrito and Berkeley.
Cinema West originally opened the 900-seat theatre on January 13, 1995, in the former Speas apple brandy warehouse. Dave Corkill of Cinema West said he was selling the Sebastopol operation to focus on “building new, large theaters in larger communities.”
