Teller Arms Twin Cinema

The Teller Arms Twin was a twin screen theatre located in Grand Junction, Colorado. It was located at the southwest corner of the Teller Arms Shopping Center complex. It was built in 1977 by the developers of the Teller Arms complex and was leased to Westland Theatres and it’s successors.

The TA twin building is on the very southeast corner of the property. It is bounded on the south by Belford Avenue, on the east by the Indian School wash (and 28 Road), on the north by an un-improved portion of the property and on the west by the parking lot. The building was built of pre-cast concrete with an exposed aggregate exterior.

The lobby was on the north side of the building. The entrance was on the west end of the north wall of the lobby/concession area. The restrooms were on the east side of the lobby, east of the concession stand. The entrance to the houses was through an opening adjacent to (and south of) the restrooms.

This theatre was the first cinema built in GJ set up exclusively for automation. The projection system for each theatre was via a Singer Simplex 35 (an updated XL) with Simplex sound heads and Eprad amplifiers. Automation was accomplished via a Drive-In Theatre Manufacturing platter system. Each house was wired for stereo sound.

The houses were located running north to south behind the lobby. The screens were on the south wall of the building.

The successor to Westland (Commonwealth, UA, etc.), was Regal Cinemas. They opened a new theatre in 2004 and closed their interest in the Teller Arms Twin in November 2006.

The building is still standing although it is deteriorating. The glass front is broken and boarded up and the roof is leaking. The future of the property is (at this writing in 2014) uncertain at this time.
