The Cine Madrigal is the last surviving one-screen cinema in the plain centre of Granada. While other cinemas of the historic city have been transformed into shopping malls, this cinema with a huge auditorium remains intact. The cinema is situated in one of the most frequented streets of Granada, the Carreta de Genil that also features popular department stores.
The cinema itself was opened in 1961 and has a rather functional modern air. The cinema occupies two storeys. The stalls on the ground floor are of huge dimensions, while the small balcony is divided by the projection room. What has struck me as a bit awkward was that the height of the theatre has been somewhat reduced by a second ceiling that was stuck on the primary ceiling forming a rather awkward pattern.
All in all, the Cine Madrigal is a classic in Granade that in addition to offering the real cinema experience in a big screening room also offers good films often in exclusivity in Granada and cheap prices!
